Melling Knighted In Scotland

By: Tom Morin

Cold Water Classic
Adam Melling won the 6-Star Prime O'Neill Coldwater Classic Scotland presented by Swatch, and in the process was knighted and given a sword. From the pictures the event looked pretty rad, the waves were a solid 5 to 6 feet, and there were castles in the backdrop. Lets not forget, he was freaking knighted and given a sword. That definetly has to be on of the best prizes in competitive surfing, it for sure beats the golden railroad spike Freddy P was given for winning the Lowers contest. "Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
