Jamie O'Brien in trouble for "riding" turtle

By: Janos Palko

If there's one thing the internet has taught me, it's that people love to be outraged. Love it.

Example number infinity: Jamie O'brien recently had his way with a green sea turtle. (pictured) Now, the media is in an uproar. People are outraged.

Turtles are a protected species in Hawaii, so feeding, petting, capturing, and especially romancing one, are strictly prohibited. Like $13,200 in fines- prohibited.

The laws are there to protect the animals, which I can understand, but in this case the turtle is obviously fine. Maybe if there were photos of the two smoking a cigarette afterwards, then I could see PETA getting involved.

No word yet on if any legal action will be taken towards Mr. O'brien.

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
