Inside the 2012 Surf Expo: Video's of Day 1, 2 & 3

By: Kat Hoffman

Over 14,000 retailers, exhibitors and media from around the globe traveled to Orlando, FL for Surf Expo that was the biggest turnout since 2005.

This year the event took place January 12-14th and offered the chance to sneak a peek at over 2,500 brands for the summer and fall 2012 lines.

There were catwalks with bikini clad girls, and fashion shows three times a day, skate competitions on the street course and quarter pipe even a standup paddle tank on the show floor to try before you buy.

A word from Surf Expo Show Director Roy Turner:

"Our show was bursting at the seams with exhibitors and buyers - all in a positive mood and doing business on the floor. From the minute we opened the doors until the show closing, there was an energy that I haven't seen in years. The positive vibe at Surf Expo shows an industry headed in the right direction as it continues to rebound after the recession."

Here's a look at all the happenings throughout the event in vids below:

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
