Homegrown III

By: Janos Palko

Here she is, folks, Episode 3 of NIck Rozsa and filmer Chris Papaleo's mini-project: Homegrown.

This installment features some guest-ripping by a guy named Kelly Slater, never heard of him but he surfs pretty good.

From the get-go this project was set on exposing how hard an unsponsored surfer can rip, and still be ignored by the media.

Well turns out the answer is THAT HARD. It appears as though NIck has been re-signed by Reef following the Homegrown success, as evidenced by the fresh decals, so...... mission accomplished!! yewww!!

part 1 and 2 here and here.

"Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
