Dane will be at Snapper

By: Janos Palko

Quiksilver is pleased to announce that Dane Reynolds, arguably the most exciting surfer on the planet, will be donning a colored rashguard for the Quik Pro at Snapper, the first event of the 2012 season, starting at the end of February.

He will be one of the wildcards in the draw, meaning he could be seeded last in the event, meaning he'd face the number one seed in round 1, meaning Kelly Slater, meaning every surfer on earth will be drooling uncontrollably during that 30 minutes.

What is doesn't mean is that this could get him back on tour. As a sponsor wildcard, I don't think Mr.Reynolds will be keeping any points earned in the event..

"Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.

No doubt he'll back out at the last second. He's a flake and no longer relevant in competitive surfing.
