Mike Losness And Claire Bevilacqua Take Home The San Clemente Shootout Titles At The First Stop Of The Bud Light Lime Surf Series

San Clemente, CA (May 31, 2011) – Mike Losness hoisted the “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner” trophy when he won the men’s division of the 1st ever Bud Light Lime Surf Series contest, which took place Memorial Day Weekend at Church in San Onofre State Beach. Losness overcame strong performances from Mitch Coleborn and former ASP World Tour Surfers Roy Powers and Kekoa Bacalso in the finals. To make the final heat, Losness edged out Aaron Cormican, who had the highest single wave score of the event after throwing the Gorkin and landing a 9.4.

The women’s final saw Claire Bevilacqua defeat local Kyla Langen, 4-time World Champ Lisa Andersen, and Hawaiian Megan Abubo. Although she finished 4th in the surf final, Serena Brooke proclaimed that Abubo won the prize for the worst dancer at the etnies Party on Saturday night.

In conditions reminiscent of a Bud Tour Final, Jim Hogan beat out Pat O’Connell, Vince De La Pena and Chris Brown in the All-Stars of the Bud Tour Heat.

CJ Kanuha won the “Fred Patacchia 360 Challenge” when he completed five 360’s in a row on the same wave. Kanuha and his partner Jr. Gruel also won the Corn Hole Tournament walking away with $500.

“We had contest surfers, world champs, magazine guys, youtube sensations and legends here for a Corn Hole tournament and beach party—and they went surfing. So we filmed it and gave them some prize money.” said Contest Director Benji Weatherley. “There was some amazing surfing and everyone seemed to have a really good time. I can’t wait for Ventura!”

The Bud Light Lime Surf Series consists of two new events along the California coast in 2011, bringing together 32 top men and eight women to compete for more than $100,000 in total prize purse. The events will be held at Church in San Onofre State Beach on Memorial Day weekend, and the Point in Ventura on Labor Day Weekend. IMG is partnering with Surfline.com to broadcast highlight footage of each event’s contests, including special behind the scenes footage. The invited athletes will include a mixture of celebrated and renowned competitors who have earned a reputation within the surfing industry, have made their living on surfing tours, and are prominent “magazine” and “video” surfers. Some of the athletes invited to participate can trace their roots back to an earlier incarnation of the Bud Light Lime Surf Series, the Bud Surf Tour.
