This year’s event will be held on Sunday, September 12th at Salt Creek. Check in will be at 9 a.m. sharp. A $20.00 dollar beach entry, in addition to other proceeds, will go to the recovery of good friend Kevin Kroushinsky who was injured at Salt Creek last April. The awards and Cowabunga dance party, will be held at the Dana Point Hennesey’s at 7:30 pm. To all you kooks- don’t miss it!
Grab your Doyle, Zinka, and the most outrageous costume you can find. It’s that time of the year for the world’s most anticipated surfing event. No, not the U.S. Open of Surfing at Huntington. We’re talking about the best in extreme surfing, The Cowabunga Extravaganza presented by O’Neill. The ‘C.E.’ is unlike an ordinary surf event. Surfers are judged by how bad they can actually surf a wave. Ironically, some of the best surfer in the world end up being the best kook surfers. It takes a certain skill to ride a wave spastically and to not throw your back out! Additional points are awarded for the surfer’s creativity (i.e.costumes, a special board, etc).
A $500.00 cash prize, brought to you by Smith Optics, will be awarded to the most creative competitor. ‘Buttsquats’ and ‘pizza tosses’ are a must if you’ve got your eye on the final. The C.E. is by far the most entertaining surf event, both for competitors, and spectators alike.
