Adriano De Souza is the most decorated surfer ever to grace the pages of a TransWorld SURF Check Out. The reigning ASP World Junior Champion and …Lost Pro Junior Champion, De Souza is the best seventeen-year-old surfer in the world, hands down-not even a question.
Back in January of 2004, De Souza defeated Shaun Cansdell, who was four years older than Adriano at the time, and an ultra-talented field of the best junior (twenty and under) surfers around: Sean Moody, Kekoa Bacalso, Daniel Jones, and a thousand hot Aussies. De Souza, to the delight of Brazilians worldwide, smoked the entire field and at age sixteen was named the youngest Junior Champion ever.
Fast-forward to the …Lost Pro Junior, which is held during the U.S. Open in Huntington Beach, California, where De Souza again eliminated the best junior surfers any country could muster up. Many spectators (myself included) thought De Souza was one of the most exciting surfers to watch during the entire event-WCT surfers included. His rapid-fire, energetic surfing was every bit as good as Taj Burrow’s (U.S. Open winner), and his air in the final of the …Lost Pro Junior was the best launch of the entire two-week-long event.
During this past North Shore competition season, Adriano proved he’s no small-wave wonder, either. Carving apart and tearing to pieces eight-foot Hale’iwa (considered by many to be the scariest wave on the North Shore) took care of that.
Adriano De Souza, remember that name-with skills like this, he could be the first Brazilian World Champion ever.-Justin Cote
