Chicks Who Rip

For the third consecutive year, O’Neill and Reef presented The Rochelle Ballard Surf Camp for Chicks Who Rip. Over 60 girls from Oahu, Maui and Kauai, ages 8-19 with an interest in competitive surfing turned out for the three-day all-girls surf camp, run by Rochelle and Teresa McGregor. The camp was held at Camp Mokuleia on the island of Oahu, where, in addition to surfing, the wahines participated in circuit training that included running, underwater rock running, swimming, and dancing.[IMAGE 2]

Fellow pro-surfers, Keala Kennely, Megan Abubo, Chelsea Gorgensen, and Belen Connelly also attended the camp to help coach the young surfers and inspire them to pursue their dreams. World Team manager, Rainos Hayes was also on site to provide surf specific coaching to the girls. O’Neill and Reef presented two inter-island airline tickets to Monyca Wicki and Lipoa Kahaleuahi, both from Hana, Maui, who have worked the hardest to get to all the contests that take place throughout islands.[IMAGE 3]

The NSSA also gave away a year’s worth of membership and entry fees to Andrianna Mendival, 14 from Kaui. In addition to the surfing, training, and killer prizes, the camp also focused the importance of education, diversity, and commitment to themselves that will take these girls on whatever adventure they choose in life.
