Mavericks to Provide Unprecedented Free Live Coverage of The 2009 Mavericks Surf Contest® to the World. Historic partnerships with FUEL TV and MySpace. Go to www.fuel.tv/maverickssurf for the live webcast!
Mavericks Surf Ventures, Inc. (Mavericks) today announced two partnerships that will deliver historic opportunities for Mavericks fans all over the world to experience The 2009 Mavericks Surf Contest®. FUEL TV, the leading action sports lifestyle network, will showcase Mavericks as the first-ever high-definition live surfing webcast at www.fuel.tv/maverickssurf. MySpace, the world’s premiere social network, will webcast the Contest in standard definition at www.myspace.com/maverickssurf.
The event will take place on 24 hours notice, only when Mother Nature delivers favorable weather and contest-worthy swell reaching heights of 25-30 feet anytime between January 1 and March 31, 2009. When Contest Director Jeff Clark gives the Contest greenlight, fans can experience “the world’s most dangerous wave” and all the jaw-dropping action from the comfort and convenience of their computers. Beginning at 8 a.m. (PST) on Contest day, the free, live webcast will feature all the epic big-wave surfing action, live interviews with the surfers, up-to-the-minute heat results and the awards ceremony.
“Mavericks has become a global phenomenon, and we’re thrilled to be working with such forward-thinking partners to help us deliver the authentic Mavericks experience to fans everywhere,” commented Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling. “We’re excited about working with Mavericks to create a truly historic event—the first live webcast of a surfing event in HD over the Internet,” said Gene Pao, FUEL TV Vice President of New Media and International Development. “The quality of the viewing experience will really be unmatched anywhere online in the action sports world. This demonstrates that Mavericks is a true leader in bringing the best possible action sports experience to fans, and FUEL TV is proud to be a part of it.” “Last season’s Mavericks webcast content on MySpace was ultimately viewed by millions of fans; we’re looking forward to another great Contest this season, and helping fans far and wide to connect and enjoy every second of it,” commented MySpace SVP of Marketing Angela Courtin.
In addition, FUEL TV will broadcast the 09 Contest highlights show later in the year. “While the live webcast will offer fans immediate access to the action, the TV special will offer some the backstory, freesurf sessions, and exclusive angles and perspectives that won’t be available online,” says Shon Tomlin, FUEL TV’s Vice President of Programming and Development. “Each will provide a unique viewing experience for an exclusive, one of a kind surfing event that is unparalleled.”
Alternate Viewing Options
The webcast will also be simulcast once again at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. Ticketed fans can watch the Contest live on the big screen in centerfield or from any of the big screens throughout the Club level. Tickets for the AT&T Park viewing event will include in and out privileges and can be purchased for $20 in advance, or $25 at AT&T Park or online at maverickssurf.com.
For those who want to be even closer to the action, Mavericks has a few spots available on its officially-sanctioned boat tours. These boats are piloted by seasoned, local captains with knowledge of the area around the Mavericks surf break, and guests on the boats are provided with complimentary parking, lunches and official Contest apparel. *Note: Mavericks strongly discourages anyone from purchasing seats on non-sanctioned boat tours with which Mavericks has no affiliation due to safety risks.
As always, surfers and fans alike can track the waves, stay informed of webcast information, Contest announcements, signup for Mavericks mail, greenlight SMS alerts, purchase official Mavericks™ gear and buy tickets for the Mavericks Boat Tour and the AT&T Park Viewing Event, at the official Mavericks website, maverickssurf.com.
