As reported on www.utsandiego.com:
Authorities have posted an advisory Wednesday after a shark believed to be a great white was spotted close to the shore in Imperial Beach. A surfer took this picture of what is believed to be a great white shark swimming near shore in Imperial Beach Tuesday morning.
A surfer standing at the end of Beach Avenue south of the Imperial Beach Pier spotted the shark's fin above the water about 9 a.m. Tuesday and took a picture of it, Imperial Beach lifeguard Capt. Robert Stabenow said. The animal was swimming about 100 to 150 yards offshore in water some 10 to 15 feet deep, Stabenow said.
The photo was sent to shark experts who determined the fin belonged to a great white approximately 16 to 18 feet long, Stabenow said.
