Headworx Commits To Long-Term Rider Programme With New Deals For Reubin Pearce & Matt Capel

Headworx has reaffirmed its core Riders Choice philosophy by re-signing top surfers Reubin Pearce and Matt Capel. Reubin, who sealed the prestigious British pro tour title last November joins British young gun Matt on a two year contract.

The core surf label has now secured both riders’ futures until 2008 — a bold statement at a time when top British surfers are under huge pressure after the culling of big name riders by rival companies.

“Headworx are fully committed to our rider-led marketing programme, said marketing manager Ben Byfield. “Both Reubin and Matt had a hugely successful season for Headworx last year, after being the first riders signed up after our re-launch last May. It’s only right that we should continue to invest in them as we take the brand forwards.

With the support of Headworx, 23-year-old Reubin Pearce secured his first ever victory in the UK at the Jersey Open and went on to win a total of three BPSA events and the BPSA Champion of Champions in Sri Lanka on his way to the British pro title. His indomitable approach and radical, powerful style was a winning combination that will be hard to beat by his tour rivals this year.

“Headworx has been a great sponsor for me over the past year. It is a brand which really cares about its riders and I’m already looking forward to another season as part of the team, explained Pearce.

20-year-old Matt Capel is looking to continue his rise through the surfing ranks in 2006 after a blistering first season on the senior circuit last year with Headworx. With a 4th place finish in the British national championships, a 2nd place at the Lusty Glaze Night Surf and a Pro Junior win at the BPSA Jersey in 2005, Matt has already announced his arrival as one of Britain’s top surfers. Now with another 2 years backing from Headworx, Matt is thirsty for British and European titles to add to his England team status.

The ‘Riders Choice’ brand is firmly back at the grass-roots of surfing, on which it was built back in the 70’s. In the past year, Headworx has made a re-appearance on the BPSA tour, sponsoring the Welsh Open, and it has also secured a deal with the ESF to sponsor the England surf team.

This season, the company has already supported the hugely-successful British Universities Surfing Championships in March and is now preparing to back up Red Stripe beer as sponsors of the British Longboard Champs in May.

“We have been back on the surfing scene for just under a year and I think we have clearly achieved the objectives we set ourselves – to get back to the core of surfing and sponsor a team of riders who we believed in and who believed in what the brand stands for, added marketing manager, Ben Byfield.

“Reubin and Matt are true ambassadors for the brand and we’re stoked to welcome them back for another two exciting years.
