Headworx riders Reubin Pearce and Matt Capel are set to compete at the UK’s top surfing event, the WQS 5* Newquay Boardmasters at Fistral Beach next week.
Only two weeks ago Reubin won the Champion of Champions event in Sri Lanka and he is currently lying top of the BPSA tour. He is now hot favourite for the BPSA tour title but he is also hoping his recent good form will continue at the Boardmasters.
“There is a strong contingent of riders this year and with more than 150 guys entering the competition, any one of them is capable of winning it. Going on my recent form I would like to think I’ll be up there challenging for one of the top spots. said Reubin.
He added: “I think that you have to go into every event believing you can win it. My recent form has given me a confidence boost and I would obviously love to walk away with the top prize of $10,000 – it wouldn’t be bad for a weeks work.
Since signing for Headworx earlier this year, 2003 Junior Boardmaster Champion Matt Capel is already turning heads on the senior tour and he is looking forward to a week of competing against the best surfers on the World Qualifying Series.
“I am definitely looking forward to the Boardmasters this year. It is a highly ranked event and although I have to qualify, I’m surfing pretty well at the moment and I have high hopes for the week. said Matt.
The Boardmasters was primarily just a surfing event but over the years it has grown in stature and now includes BMX, FMX and skateboard displays along with a line up of top acts at the music festival.
“The best thing about the event is the atmosphere; there is always a good vibe about the week with hundreds of people spread out down Fistral Beach. I expect this year to be even better than the last. added Reubin.
