Polystyrene foam packaging particles are a leading form of litter on our beaches and a tremendous eyesore. Polystyrene foam packaging (commonly known as Styrofoam) is causing major environmental problems by contributing to marine pollution and damaging water quality. Over the past several years, Surfrider Foundation California Chapters have been working to eradicate this source of litter in their local Chapter areas. Now 47 municipalities in California have regulated polystyrene take-out ware! Shouldn’t this good idea be taken statewide?
Absolutely! Senate Bill 568 will reduce the amount of polystyrene foam litter in our waste stream and environment by prohibiting the distribution and use of foam containers by food vendors. Right now, we have an opportunity to support legislation that would clean up our beaches. Please contact YOUR elected officials and urge them to support this important legislation.
