March 12, 2010 : – – Ian Walsh’s Menehune Mayhem is a one day surf event to pit Maui’s Top Junior Surfers in an all day competition. Awards will be given at the event for highest GPA for a boy and girl, the Eric Diaz Memorial Award and the Steve Cooney Memorial Award in which all competitors are eligible to win.
The event’s four person finals will determine the podium positions. Event will be held at Ian Walsh’s home break, Ho’okipa Beach Park on the North Shore of Maui. Ian Walsh, an advocate for introducing and instilling a passion for surfing in Hawaii’s youth, created the free event with the help of Red Bull and Fox, as a way of giving back to the children and teens of Maui as well as showcasing what the surf culture and sport have to offer.
Entry forms can be picked up at Hi-Tech surf shops on Maui and mailed to 720 #5 Hana Hwy. Paia, HI 96779. The event is first come first serve and the divisions fill up quickly. Participants can enter in the following categories: boys and girls ages 11 and under, boys ages 12-13, girls ages 12-14, boys ages 14-15, girls ages 15-17 and boys ages 16-17
There will be an after party at Charley’s in Paia the night of competition for industry, friends and family 21 and over.
WHO: Pro and Junior surfers as well as the local area surf community. The event will also feature live performances from Honolulu’s top nightlife entertainer DJ ESKAE Special guests involved will include: Ian Walsh, the infamous Walsh twins “Shaun and D.K.” and a few special guests
