La Jolla, California, February 1, 2011 – The ISA Skullcandy Video Contest starts today! For the first time in history, the International Surfing Association, World Governing Authority for Surfing recognized by the International Olympic Committee, invites filmmakers, surfers and fans to let us know what a better surfing future means to them.
As part of the ISA’s goal to improve the sport of surfing, we have paired with Skullcandy to host a video contest for which contestants can submit videos answering the question, “What does a better surfing future mean to you?”
By submitting a short video, no longer than 90 seconds, in the following two months, contestants will be competing for over 50 prizes. The top prizes will be awarded to the Most-viewed videos and to the ones awarded by the Jury. Each winner will receive $250 USD cash and a $200 Skullcandy prize package.
Starting today (February 1), contestants can now upload their videos to a designated ftp (check instructions and tech recommendations here), and on March 30 we will close the period of submissions and upload everybody’s videos to Youtube. People will be able to view all the videos from April 1 to May 15. The count will end on May 15 and on May 30 all the winners will be announced.
The Jury will consist of editors of the biggest surfing websites in the world:
Dave Gilovich – Surfline.com – North America
Bruce Boal – SurfersVillage.com-Europe
Alceu Toledo Junior – Waves.com.br – South America
Ben Ey – CoastalWatch.com – Oceania
Steve Pike –wavescape.co.za – Africa
We want contestants to enjoy artistic freedom in expressing what "a better surfing future" should be.
It is a free video contest and everybody is invited to participate. Use your webcam, your cell phone, your dad’s VHS recorder, your GoPro or your professional HD camera. Get out there and have fun!
