San Diego β August 21, 2003 β Hawaiian surfing pro Jason Bogle has proven his bravery all over the world, mastering the biggest barrels at the most renowned surf spots. After recently being diagnosed with a form of cancer known as Ewing’s Sarcoma, the action sports industry is coming together to raise funds for Jason’s treatment, which is estimated at $750,000.
On September 6, an event will be held at 4th & B in downtown San Diego featuring live performances by Blink 182 and Taking Back Sunday. In their own support of the fundraiser, both bands are performing for free. A preview of the video “The Union Blue Project: A Fundraiser for Our Friend Jason Bogle, will also be featured. The video includes submissions from top surf film producers including Taylor Steele, Jack McCoy, Matt Gye and Bill Ballard.
Tickets are on sale now through the 4th & B box office at 345 B Street, or by calling 619/231-4343. Tickets can also be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 619/220-TIXS. The event organizers are seeking sponsors to help support the event. All sponsor proceeds will benefit the “Friends of Jason Bogle Cancer Fund. Interested parties should contact Sam Yago at (619) 709-1054. Many thanks to Atticus Clothing, FUEL, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Hurley, Macbeth Shoes, Transworld Surf and DC Shoes for their donations.
Ewing’s Sarcoma is a rare bone cancer where β in many cases β the cause is unknown. For Jason, the cancer developed in his hip and is at a high risk of spreading rapidly. Because Jason was diagnosed in a late stage, he needs very specialized treatment. As a surfer with no health insurance, the action sports industry hopes to raise the necessary funds.
