Justin Quintal Wins Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational Presented By Vans In Montauk; Floridian Also Claimed Duct Tape Invitational At The ECSC
Montauk, NY (October 18, 2010) – The Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational Presented by Vans went down October 14 and 15 at legendary Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY, with 16 of the best longboarders in the world riding 12-lb, single fin leashless boards along with some serious style and nose riding all for a $10,000 purse.
Thursday’s opening rounds saw just enough surf for the guys to pull off a variety of maneuvers, while Friday’s early morning finals picked up with waist to chest high waves and strong side offshore winds, making for a solid finish.
After whittling the initial 16 down to the four finalists, Jacksonville, Florida native Justin Quintal took home $4,000 for first place, Aussie Harrison Roach $3,000 for second, Long Island rider Mike Detemple $2,000 for third and SoCal longboarder Tyler Warren pocketed $1,000 for fourth spot. Quintal’s win in Montauk follows a first place finish in the Duct Tape Invitational at the East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach, after he was chosen as a wildcard entry for the event. He also claimed the ECSC Pro Longboard title.
Introduced in August at the ECSC, the Duct Tape Invitational is an innovative new event Vans developed with Joel Tudor that showcases longboarding in its purest aesthetic and pushes the envelope on how longboarding is typically viewed.
“The Duct Tape Invitational is special because it shows longboarding the way it should be,” says contest director and Vans team rider Joel Tudor. “It also highlights some of my favorite young loggers, guys that represent the next generation of longboarding.”
