EVENT #7 ON THE ASSOCIATION OF SURFING PROFESSIONALS (ASP)FOSTER’S MEN’S WORLD TOUR
Layday Called As Quiksilver Pro Japan Awaits New Swell
With the swell fading overnight as predicted, organisers of the Quiksilver Pro Japan have opted to call a layday in anticipation of a new swell arriving by the weekend.
Round one of the event, the seventh of the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, was completed at Shidashita yesterday, and organisers now have the luxury to fully utilise the waiting period which ends on Wednesday 7 September. The tournament could potentially be completed in another three days of competition.
Weather forecasts now have local tropical storm Nabi upgraded to typhoon status giving rise to hopes of similar conditions to last year where two-metre plus (six foot plus) waves arrived towards the end of the waiting period providing excellent conditions.
There has also been much talk of the upcoming matchups for round two (full draw is available on www.quiksilver.com and www.aspworldtour.com), which is one of the most interesting of the 2005 season to date pitting, numerous old heads against the new school who are beginning to dominate the ranks.
