Life Rolls On Rolls Launches 2010 They Will Surf Again Tour This Weekend in Huntington Beach; More Than 40 Paralyzed Surfers Expected for Life Rolls On's First Adaptive Surf Event of the Summer
LOS ANGELES, CA – (April 21, 2010) – On Sunday, April 25, Life Rolls On Foundation will open its 2010 They Will Surf Again season at 6th Street in Huntington Beach, CA. As the signature quality of life program produced by Life Rolls On, They Will Surf Again (TWSA) empowers paraplegics and quadriplegics with the opportunity to surf despite paralysis. As the 31st TWSA event since the program's inception, this also marks the first stop on Life Rolls On's nine-city They Will Surf Again national tour.
"Our ultimate goal for this program is to inspire young people affected by spinal cord injury," said Kris Nakamura, Executive Director and CEO of Life Rolls On Foundation. "By helping them surf, we hope to show that nothing is impossible."
Laguna Beach resident and TONIC and Billabong team rider Taylor Pitz, along with Power 106 radio personality Jeff Garcia, will be among the volunteers helping athletes catch waves, while adaptive surfers will include Jennifer Kumiyama, recently crowned as Ms. Wheelchair California. Life Rolls On Director of National Outreach Jesse Billauer will also be on hand to encourage adaptive surfers at the five-hour event.
Underwritten by the generous support of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) and Global Surf Industries (GSI), TWSA serves as an exciting surfing experience as well as an opportunity for young people with spinal cord injury to develop friendships and build peer support networks. BJ's Restaurants, Function Drinks, ROCK Christian Church and Sweet Treats will keep nearly 200 hard-working volunteers and fearless surfers energized with their donations of food, beverages and ice cream, while Power 106 will keep the event buzzing with hip-hop beats.
