The fifteenth annual Local Motion Surf Into Summer is slated to burn up at the (Ala Moana) Bowl on Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 27, 28. Featuring eleven categories for shortboarding, longboarding, and bodyboarding, and including age groups from twelve and under to 45 and up, more than 300 entrants will compete in this event, which is considered a traditional end to the school year and a signal to the start of another summer.
The venue off Magic Island’s harbor side tip is known to hold just about any southerly angled swell and is considered the most consistent performance wave on the south shore. Besides the regular surfing, the Surfing Magazine Air Show will be in town to feature the finest airborne wave-riding specialists with 5000 dollars in cash. It’s also a qualifier for the Vans SMAS Final to be held later this year.
There’s music daily from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Saturday it’s Star 101FM alternative music, hip-hop on Sunday with I-94, and Monday will feature Island Rhythm 98.5FM. Hawai’i’s best skaters will also be on hand at the LMID skate demo area daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Also on Sunday at the Pipeline Cafe from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Billabong will be premiering its latest flick “Pickled, the Movie” along with surf/rock star Donavon Frankenreiter and his band, Sunchild.
