SOLANA BEACH, CA (JUNE 6) – Opper Sports Productions is proud to announce the premiere of their 2nd season of the all-original surfing series, “Long Board TV,” narrated by Robert “Wingnut” Weaver (Endless Summer 2).
The second season premieres this Friday, June 10 at 10:30 pm ET/PT on FUEL TV.
The weekly series, which uses a magazine format, includes profiles of the best contemporary longboarders in the world including: Alex Knost, Tanner Beckett, Lucas Proudfoot, Kekoa Uemura, Kassia Meador, Christian Wach, Dodger Kremel and more. LBTV also profiles some of surfing’s greatest legends such as Herbie Fletcher, John Severson, LJ Richards, Rick Griffin and Jeff Hakman. In addition, the series explores the cult fringes of surf culture, with features on tandem surfing and the retro movement.
To gather footage for the Spot Check segment, Opper Sports’ intrepid production crew ventured to the exotic surfing outposts of the Aceh Province of North Sumatra, the remote Nootka Island in Canada, the North Shore of Hawaii, Noosa Heads and the Gold Coast of Australia, and both of California’s “Surf Cities—Santa Cruz and Huntington Beach.
Produced and filmed by four-time Emmy Award-winner Ira Opper, the series carries much of Opper’s trademark touch. “We were very fortunate when shooting this series—we scored several sunny beautiful days with big surf in California, Hawaii, Australia and Indo. Time hanging out with the young new crew of “all boarders was a blast. It will be evident in our coverage that this generation of longboarders has a fresh and unique perspective on their sport.
Directed, edited and filmed by Todd Saunders, the former photo editor for Longboard Magazine said, “It has been a very exciting season to document the landmark developments of the surf world, aided by the latest in technology to produce our content. With much lighter and smaller equipment, we gained unique access and perspective on the emergence of the modern ‘all board’ movement.
The series was written by the managing editor of Surfer Magazine and former editor of Longboard Magazine, Brad Melekian. Technical director was Dustin Hood and Post Production assistance was done by Dan Dixon.
Music was an important creative aspect to the series. According to music supervisor Kimberly Feilen, “Scouting for refreshing genres allowed for talent as close as our local So Cal backyard off indie labels such as Darla Records (Lowlights, Holland, and My Morning Jacket) all the way to the Baka people deep within the African forests (Baka Beyond). And in between, the funk-dance-electro-punk artists off of NYC’s DFA Records (Pixeltan) and Montreal’s Alien8 Recordings (Les Georges Leningrad), as well as some world-fusion-indo grooves out of England, Austria and OZ, are only a mere glimpse of what’s musically packed into this season of LBTV.”
