Sanuk’s Founder, Jeff Kelley: “We are super pleased to announce that Mark has joined the Sanuk and C and C team in Irvine as our brand marketing manager. The marketing position is super important for a specialty brand like Sanuk. Authenticity within Surf was a fundamental requirement for this position. In addition we wanted some one who knows the Pro surf community, media, PR, promotions and had connections to the music and entertainment community.
Mark fills the bill perfectly. He graduated from Huntington High, and was a Pro surfer from 1988 to ’97. In the next few years Mark rang up a diverse set of experiences, having worked for Blue Torch/Gotcha.com, then repping for Surfing Magazine. In 2001 Mark co-founded Spare Change Magazine here in Orange County. In the midst of all of this Mark launched a DJ business that took him all around the world which connected him with the entertainment business.
Mark added, “This is really a great. I actually was a Team rider for Sanuk from the very beginning of the brand, so I understand the culture and point of view of the Sanuk brand as an insider. I look forward to helping grow the brand to its potential. Sanuk is on a roll and I think I can help add to the momentum. We have so many pieces to work with, from the obviously unique products to Donovan and his music. I like Sanuk’s advertising approach. The recent 91X radio promo in San Diego is a great example of partnering up with local retailers and doing something really different to get the message out there. And of course the print campaigns are always a gas! I am stoked!
Dac Clark, President of C and C added, “Mark is a great addition to our team. Sanuk has a unique position within surf, and we were committed to finding the ideal match. Mark obviously fits the bill, and we all look forward to seeing his imprint on our business. Mark rounds out the commitment my partner and I made last June to add horsepower to the Sanuk team. In this short period of time we have added Bob Rief and John Vance, two industry vets, as CEO and VP, Sales. We have greatly strengthened our field sales team with the addition of Tony Casella here in LA and San Diego Counties. Our sales are running in the 50% increase range, with many reps having booked more now than they did all last year. We have great distribution and our retail sell through has been excellent. We’re very bullish on the brand and team and are solidly behind their growth initiatives. “
