TransWorld SURF’s Chris Coté interviews the cast of Modern Collective, a few groms after the show, up and coming ripper Luke Davis, a Model Search contender, and a few more groms. Check out Modern Collective director Kai Neville’s interview on the next page…
Just like the Modern Collective crew doesn’t like offshore winds and perfect pointbreaks, we don’t do surf movie premiere’s in Hollywood. Something about it’s just not right, so, we waited to get our viewing of the much-talked about film at the legendary La Paloma Theater in our hometown of Encinitas, CA. And unlike Rob Machado’s The Drifter premier last week, we actually made it inside the theater this time.
My thoughts on the movie are this: MC has most amazing display of aerial surfing ever compiled into one film, it was lacking big tube rides, the music was pretty good, not enough Dane Reynolds, Dion Agius is a more complete surfer than he used to be, and Jordy Smith is the best surfer in the world hands down.
