The tradition continues! The O’Neill Bragger’s Cup surf shop challenge presented by Transworld Surf showcases the best shop teams in America and adds to previous years’ successes with some new twists.
Up for grabs is the Bragger’s cup and cash for the team winners, cash/product for the individual men’s and women’s winners, cash/product for the best trick, and something new this year… the shop owner division! But we want to give more than cash and promo to the shop owner, so we’re instead giving away a $1000 retail order so they can really cash in their chips! Kelly Gibson, president of O’Neill Clothing agrees “The Surf Shop is the foundation of our industry; it’s where it all began. O’Neill thinks it’s important to continue the surf shop team rivalries that have existed for many years.”
Also, the top team will win the Bragger’s Cup and cash of course, but the real prize is an ad that’s being donated by Transworld Surf to the shop team winners of stops 1, 2 and 3. As Liam Ferguson of Transworld Surf fame puts it “The surf shop is the Alpha and the Omega of the surf industry. TransWorld SURF is extremely proud to partner with O’Neill in giving back to the true warriors our surf culture, the crew behind the counter at your local surf shop.
3 events are on tap for this year. Here’s the details:
First up is the 3rd annual Outerbanks event and it just went off at Kill Devil Hills. The Outerbanks is one of the East Coast coast’s premiere waves and shops weren’t dissapointed this year with bowly head high surf. Former world tour vet Wes Laine used his contest savvy to win the individual mens title and the solid Whalebone team took home the Bragger’s Cup.
The second event is the California stop and is going down in Huntington Beach on August 10th. Nothing like prime south swell season, summer beach crowds, and amping shop teams to make the beach a full blown scene.
The third and final stop is happening at… Sebastian Inlet. Yes, one of the top two waves on the East Coast (and event stop #1 at the Outerbanks is the other of course…). Sebastian event date is October 23rd and they’re expecting an active hurricane season. Shops won’t miss this event for anything- there’s nothing like surfing good Sebastian with just 3 other surfers out.
At the core of the Bragger’s Cup surf shop challenge is the surf shop of course. So O’Neill and Transworld are stoked to be partnering with The Board Retailers Association who help keep the shops alive! “This is exactly the kind of grassroots event that the BRA is proud to be a part of”, says Mikke Pierson of the Board Retailers Association/ZJ’s Boardinghouse.
Entry gets you access to the pre-party the night before, event breakfast and lunch, Shop Challenge T, boatloads of promo, and good times, good times. If you think your shop’s got what it takes, don’t miss it!
