C.J. Hobgood rode a motorcycle and broke his foot. He should be doing better by the time this comes out, but needless to say, he’ll be missing some events this year. Get well, C.J., you’re our favorite Hobgood (well, actually you’re in our top two).
Brian Conley came into the office the other day to autograph a giant-sized copy of the cover he was on. The huge cover is now hanging on the walls of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos and Jack’s Surf Shop in Huntington.

The famous surf spot Jardim do Mar in Madeira is again under threat of destruction by the ongoing construction of a seaside promenade and accompanying seawall. Surfers on the island of Madeira are calling for international help in preserving what has been called the world’s best (and perhaps only) big-wave point break. The development is one of many coastal projects that are currently threatening more than half of the surf breaks on the island. A coalition of environmental groups is planning another public demonstration in November 2003 to protest the loss of recreational sites for the sport of surfing and to demand that environmental guidelines are met in all future projects. To get more information, visit Save The Waves Coalition at savethewaves.org, or contact Executive Director Will Henry at email@example.com.
After you help save Madeira, help save a manatee. All you Floridians should pitch in and adopt a manatee. Those things are cool-looking, and they seem really nice. They get nailed by boats all the time, and that really sucks. Do something positive! Go to www.savethemanatee.org and save a cool beast.
