NorCal Surfer Attacked By Great White Shark
45-year old surfer Jay Scrivner is thanking his lucky stars after surviving an attack by an estimated nine-foot Great White shark. Surfing near his hometown of Eureka, California, Jay was bitten on the leg while waiting out the back on a calm Sunday morning. “Sometimes you have a feeling that the water is weird,” Scrivner told The Associated Press in a phone interview from his room at Eureka’s St. Joseph Hospital on Monday afternoon. “But everyone was just so happy. I was lying on my board, paddling around just waiting for a wave set.”
According to Jay, he was riding an old, thick board that he thinks prevented any major arteries being severed, in other words, the board took the brunt of the bite. Scrivner's attack comes a year after another surfer, Scott Stephens, was attacked in the same area. We'd like to wish Jay a speedy recovery, get well soon buddy!
