Lifestyle Companies Give O.C. Foster Kids A Memorable Christmas
December 22nd-, Santa Ana, California — The Ryde, along with The Militia Group, Simple Shoes, Walking On Water, and Surfer Magazine, teamed up to help add a little holiday cheer to 120 Orange County foster kids through the Olive Crest network of foster homes by donating clothing, CDs, shoes, surf DVDs, and magazines.
Most of the packages were put together specifically for adolescents and teens. According to Mike Figueroa, owner of The Ryde, “Once I started talking with Olive Crest, I realized that the younger kids in their organization have all kinds of gifts donated, but the teens seem to go overlooked and it was just a natural fit for us to give out some t-shirts and hats that they could really enjoy.
T-shirts and hats weren’t the only thing these teens received this year. The Militia Group, an LA based Indie Rock record label, gave out “Cartel and “The Beautiful Mistake CDs to each of the foster kids. Simple Shoes gave out shoes, even taking the time to gather sizing information so that the kids could have a pair of well fitting shoes that were cool and on the forefront of fashion. Walking On Water, a San Diego based organization known for creating some of the best produced surf DVDs, gave several DVDs to each home for the kids to enjoy and Surfer Magazine gave out scores of magazines and stickers.
Along with t-shirts and hats, The Ryde also gave out hundreds of stickers and posters for the kids and is already conferencing with Olive Crest to create an ongoing program where foster kids from Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Inland Empire can come and participate in surf camps, surf lessons, DVD nights and other surf-related activities.
“We feel that we’ve been really blessed and this is just a fun way for us to give back to a community that we love, said Ricky Stewart from The Ryde. “This has been as much fun for us as it has been for the kids over here at Olive Crest. We’re thankful to be a part of it.
This year was the first time The Ryde partnered up with Olive Crest and it seems like they received more help and support than they anticipated. “Every one of the companies went above and beyond our expectations, remarked Mike Figueroa. “I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do with Olive Crest in the years to come. This year we had a full pickup load of goodies to deliver and next year I’m hoping that we can fill a full box truck!
