Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation Surf Charity Seeking Support To Win $250,000 From “Chase Community Giving”
Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation (JMMF), a non-profit organization working to support the mental and physical healing of abused, injured and challenged children, Marines and Veterans through a unique and free surf program called Ocean Therapy, is competing with charities nationwide for donations ranging from $25,000 to $250,000 through the Chase Community Giving program. JMMF Ocean Therapy combines the sport of assisted surfing with the support of trained volunteers and licensed therapists to create a safe and successful place where healing and success change lives; one wave at a time.
Friends and associates can help ensure the charity’s success by simply voting for JMMF through the Chase Community Giving program on Facebook and the internet. You do not need to be a member of Facebook to vote for JMMF. Through the utilization of the social media networks, the Chase Community Giving program has already directed more than $15 million toward charities nationwide, putting the power to bring positive change across the nation into the hands of those who need it most. Due to enthusiasm, the program is being continued into this fall – giving hundreds of additional charities, including JMMF the opportunity to win grants to further their mission.
“The funds will help the JMMF Ocean Therapy Surf Program reach hundreds of Marines, Veterans and Children. They will learn that success on the surfboard and the joy and healing power of being in the ocean can translate to success in life, school and transition to civilian life”, said Jeff Miller, President of the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation.
The Fall 2011 round of the Chase Community Giving program is designed to benefit smaller and local charities by being limited to 501c3 charities with operating budgets under $1 million. The top eligible charity receives $250,000 and the remaining 99 top charities earn $25,000 through $100,000 awards. More than $3 million dollars will be distributed to top vote getters.
Charities previously awarded grants through Chase Community Giving are not eligible for this round of competition. MOF is competing with thousands of charities across the country for awards from Chase.
-A wounded Marine who stood up on a surfboard, shortly after taking his first unassisted steps on the beach: “If I can do this, I can do anything. Last night, I got my first night’s sleep since returning from Iraq!”
-Another young Marine: “Surfing saved my life and gave me a reason to get up and charge every day.”
-A child from Hollygrove Children’s Center, Hollywood, CA: “It feels like a magic carpet ride. Someone is holding me up and I can fly. If I can stand up on a surfboard, solving my math problems won’t be so hard.”
-USMC General Anthony Jackson: “The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation has been the most successful therapeutic program for our returning wounded and injured Marines. And, it’s just a lot of fun. Next time, this general is going to learn to surf.”
