PSTA Contests To Air On Outdoor Life Network

The Professional Surfing Tour of America (PSTA) will be televised to millions of households across the nation this summer and fall on Outdoor Life Network (OLN). The programming will showcase top professional surfers battling it out for World Qualifying Series (WQS) points, while surfing at prime California surf spots.

OLN’s Monday-night water sports programming is a perpetual favorite among viewers. Now in its third year of airing PSTA contests on the program, this year six PSTA half-hour long shows will reach an estimated 35 million U.S. homes. “We are excited to have the PSTA as a part of our water sports lineup for the third year in a row,” said Peter Englehart, senior vice president of programming for OLN.

Continued Alan Gibby, executive producer of the PSTA, “Outdoor Life Network has been a consistent supporter of surfing as evidenced by their on-going cable casts of PSTA, Surfers Journal and Surfer Magazine,” he said. “We look forward to another successful season on OLN and applaud the network for recognizing the important value of this kind of TV programming.”

The PSTA’s goal is to offer events that showcase competitive surfing domestically. On that note, all PSTA events in 2001 will be Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) sanctioned, giving U.S. surfers increased opportunities for WQS points. (The only way a surfer can initially qualify for the ASP World Tour is by getting the required number of WQS points.) The PSTA will also provide a viable stand-alone domestic tour with its own point system and regional champions.

The OLN air date schedule will be available soon. In addition to the OLN airings, PSTA will soon formally announce syndicated broadcast airings in key surf industry markets on network affiliate and independent stations.

The PSTA is majority-owned by DynoComm Sports, which has produced over 1,200 extreme sports related TV programs since 1982. The Emmy Award winning company (which has covered ASP Tour events for over 18 years) is an owner of ESPN’s X Surf Series, and helped bring the Bud Surf Tour into prominence by producing the TV programming for Prime Network. A revamped information-focused PSTA website will formally launch in late March at www.prosurfingtour.com. Fans can also access TV air dates and times for their specific region by checking out www.psta.tv. DynoComm Sports and the PSTA are located at 930-C Calle Negocio, San Clemente, CA 92673.
