The Professional Surfing Tour of America continues its support of US professional surfing with the PSTA Pro, held June 14-16 on the north side of San Clemente Pier in San Clemente, CA. The PSTA Pro is the fourth stop on the Professional Surfing Tour of America?s (PSTA) 2002 season.
California?s best professional and amateur surfers will be competing in Men?s Shortboard, Women?s Shortboard, longboard, and Junior (13-15) divisions. The public is encouraged to attend all events. Surfing trials begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14th and continue with the Longboard finals on Saturday, June 15th at noon, and the Junior, Women and Men?s shortboard finals on Sunday, June 16. Heats run continuously from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day.
?We are pleased to be returning to San Clemente, this marks our third year at the Pier and the City of San Clemente has been a gracious host?, said PSTA Director Jeff Grell. Their commitment to professional surfing matches the drive our athletes have to excel in their sport. PSTA surfers must keep in top shape to perform well at this level of competition, and this competition is definitely part of that equation.
Top competitors scheduled to appear include 2001 PSTA Tour Champions and current tour leaders, Ryan Simmons (Seal Beach, CA), Julia Christian (Carlsbad, CA), and Josh Mohr (Huntington Beach, CA) and Chris Waring (Seal Beach, CA) . Point?s leaders in each division will wear the distinctive Paul Mitchell Black Leaders Jerseys signifying the number one ranking in their respective divisions.
The PSTA is helping to fill a vital space in professional surfing in the United States, not only by helping to fulfill the dreams of young surfers who are seeking exposure on television in their own back yard, but also by offering these athletes America?s strongest domestic pro circuit. The PSTA provides a competitive venue for surfers throughout the United States, without having to leaving American shores.
The PSTA is also offering an open invitation to the Surfing Industry to come out and participate in the event, the PSTA is offering tent space and branding opportunities, continuing the tradition we started at our most recent event in Oceanside.
