Did somebody snow! The third stop of the Goldfish Surf Series was held on the south side of Pismo Pier in glassy 3-5 ft surf. Bronzing weather with clean conditions and a afternoon high tide brought some of the best waves of the day for the finals. Along with a great day of surfing, Pismo Beach ‘s own abominable snowman showed up with his own brand of snow to start an all out snowball brawl.
Girl, Girls, Girls. The Girls final was action packed as they took advantage of the left-handers that Pismo had to offer. Young Amy Covert posted some high scores early, but it would be Hayley Cameron’s explosive surfing that would put her in the winners circle again for her third consecutive division title. Amy finished in second with Meredith Lockwood, Tara Conway, and Jamie Hannula rounding out the final.
The Groms were psyched as the horn blasted for their twenty minute final. Local boys Colin Duncan and Christian Ramirez opened up the final with some solid scores, but couldn’t catch the momentum of Kokoro Tomatsuri. Kokoro blazed his way to winning the Grom division earning himself a backpack full of gear, a Sector 9 skatedeck and a custom Christmas stocking. Colin finished in second with Christian, Joe Ball, Cody Lewis and Josh Printup rounding out the final.
In the Juniors Final, Matt Gallagher showed up to blow up. He led the from start to finish, claming the win and walking home with 1000 points in the ratings and bag full prizes. Calder Deyerle finished in a respectable second place and Kokoro Tamatsuri, John Weber, Josh Lewis and David Weber finishing in that order.
The Pro-Am Final was a thirty minute long battle of back and forth blows between all six finalists. The quick and smooth surfing of Blake Howard earned himself a solid second place with Eric Soderquist in a close third. Zack Hartley’s slicing rail turns and critical snaps paid off and earned him the win. Zack took home $400 Cash, a Santa Cruz skatedeck and bag full of Holiday loot. Walt Cerney, Dennis Rizzo, and Mike Kotowski finished in that order.
