U.S. Winners To Compete In Quiksilver ‘King of the Groms’ Global Finals In France This Fall
Huntington Beach, Calif. (June 13, 2011) – Quiksilver’s ‘King of the Groms’ 2011 U.S. is set to launch the national qualifying event at 9th Street in Huntington Beach next Monday, June 20 at 8:00 am. While showcasing the best young surf talent ages 16 and under, Quiksilver’s ‘King of the Groms’ U.S. is one of the most unique surf competitions in the world, offering the skins format and $100 per heat winner. Winners from each of the regional qualifying events held in Brazil, Tahiti, Europe, the U.S. and in other countries throughout the world will move on to compete at the prestigious global final held at the Quiksilver Pro France in late September.
“We’re really looking forward to this year’s King of the Groms event! The Skins format is one of a kind and makes every heat exciting.” Chad Wells, Quiksilver Surf Team Manager continues, “It’s great to see the kids get a chance to win some cash while they battle for the two all-expense-paid trips to the King of the Groms Global Championships in France.” The U.S. qualifier is unlike the others in that the 1st and 2nd place winners both receive the opportunity to compete in France.
The U.S. winner claims the title Quiksilver ‘King of The Groms U.S,’ prize money, as well as the chance to compete at the Quiksilver King of the Groms Global Finals in France during the Quiksilver Pro France, stop #8 on the ASP World Tour. Past grom winners have included Josh Moniz (Hawaii, 2010), Gabriel Medina (Brazil, 2009), and Maxime Huscenot (2008, France).
Special thanks to King of the Groms sponsor, DC for a $250 prize for Maneuver of the Event, as well as the newest King of the Groms sponsor Daphne’s California Greek, who will be providing lunch to competitors and staff.
