U.S. Regional Winners To Compete In Quiksilver 'King of the Groms' Global Finals In France This Fall
Huntington Beach, Calif. (June 15, 2010) –Quiksilver's 'King of the Groms' 2010 U.S. tour continues with a west coast regional qualifying event in Huntington Beach next Monday, June 21 at 8:00 a.m., just in time for the first day of summer. Quiksilver's 'King of the Groms' is one of the most unique surf competitions in the world, showcasing the best young surf talent, ages 16 and under. Finalists from each of the regional qualifying events held in Brazil, Tahiti, Europe, the U.S. and in other countries throughout the world will move on to compete at the prestigious global final held at the Quiksilver Pro France in late September.
"What I like about King of the Groms is the 'skins' format," said Chad Wells, Quiksilver's Surf Program Manager. "It breaks up the monotony of a regular contest and focuses on performance. The kids really have to think about what they've done on a wave and to evaluate their performance in a split second."
The west coast regional winner claims the title Quiksilver 'King of The Groms West Coast,' plus $1,000 and the opportunity to compete at the Quiksilver King of the Groms Global Finals in France during the Quiksilver Pro France ASP WCT. Past grom winners have included Gabriel Medina (Brazil, 2009), Maxime Huscenot (2008, France) and Tamaroa McComb (2007, Tahiti).
