Redsand declares 2000 El ROJO GRANDE Surf Shop Challenge successful. Held at Trail 4 in San Clemente, on October 14 and at N. Torrey Pines in Del Mar, CA the EL ROJO GRANDE is in its third year of existence (Ocean City, MD hosted their first ERG in August). The contest is presented by Redsand, Surfing Magazine, Arnette Optics, and Destination Surf and offers an opportunity for shop employees to show off their talents somewhere besides the sales floor.
The format calls for a three-man team consisting of employees (not team riders) to represent each shop. The contest features several other attractions including DJ Billy Knight playing rare grooves, and amazing breakfast burritos served to order couch-filled lounge.
Marketing Director Devin Johnson of Redsand says that the goal of the contest is different than most other surf contests. “The El Rojo Grande is an event designed to reward shop employees who work the front lines for us on a daily basis and may not get the perks that an owner or buyer might. It’s also a great opportunity for us to get to know a few retailers better and for them to interact with other shops without having to deal with the hype of a tradeshow or the pressure of being on the sales floor. Not to mention there’s no shortage of shop pride and bragging rights at stake.”
Another feature separating the EL ROJO GRANDE contest from so many other grassroots events are the prizes. The following first place teams won the events and earned 250-dollar travel credits for each member of the team courtesy of Redsand:
Trail 4: Becker-CDM: Geoff Moysa, Corey Rice, Jared Lang.N. Torrey Pines: Wavelines: Nick Kovak, Ryan Schnell, Danny O’Connel.
