CONDITIONS: 6-8 FOOT VICTORY AT SEA CONDITIONS

In traditional fashion, the Gold Coasters had to brave the elements atMorro Rock. A 6-8 foot northwest swell and fierce, howling windsbrought on challenging conditions for approximately 200 competitors.Nick Rozsa claimed his third Gold Coast Mens division victory whilecoming in second to Kilian Garland in the Juniors. The win was Kilian’ssecond straight in Gold Coast competition. It was no surprise that CoryArrambide took his sixth victory in the Boys division although runner upQuinn McCrystal gave Cory a run for the money. Cory edged out Quinn bya 0.5 margin. In the Menehuene division, all the groms braved theconditions with flying colors. Gold Coast groms are tough! WhitmanBedwell claimed his first ever NSSA victory. Not only did Whitman haveto charge the surf, he had to do battle with Menehuene dominator KokoroTomatsuri who has a four contest win record in Gold Coast. Speaking ofdominators, Chad LaBass continues to pile up the victories in theMasters division. He took this one convincingly with two waves scoringa 9.0 and 7.0 for his fifth Gold Coast triumph. Runner up BrianWeilbacher nailed an excellent 8.5 wave score but couldn’t find a secondscoring ride. In the Seniors division, Ed Santos was a brand new facein the winners circle this season scoring a unanimous first place judgesdecision. The fearless Gold Coast girls endured the harsh conditionswith Cloe Talavera rising to the occasion and catching a good openingride and pulling off two good turns to clinch the victory. TJ Mortimercontinues to rule the Longboard division winning his fourth straight.Billy Hanna won the Bodyboard division.

GOLD COAST AIRSHOW #2 PRESENTED BY O’NEILL AND SURFINGMAGAZINE-Combating the fierce conditions, Nick Rozsa takes the aviatoraward for pulling the only air in the O’Neill airshow. A standard airearning a 4.0 score, enough to secure the victory and his third airshowtriumph of the year counting the two victories in the SouthwestConference.
