NSSA GOLD COAST EXPLORER EVENT # 3JALAMA COUNTY BEACH, SANTA BARBARAOCTOBER 6, 2001

The third event of the NSSA Gold Coast Conference 2000/01 season washeld on Saturday, October 6 at Jalama County Beach. A small southwestswell produced 2-3 foot semi walled lefts and rights with some rippablesteep corners. The heat of the event was the Juniors final as NathanielCurran walloped the competition winning by a 10.5-point margin.Nathaniel found the rare well shaped waves and posted scores of 7.0, 6.0and 8.5 for a 21.5 point total over runner up Justin Quirk’s 11.0.Nathaniel’s victory puts him on top of the Juniors ratings, with rivalDane Reynolds slipping to second. Nate Tyler snapped Nathaniel’stwo-event win streak in the Mens division. Nathaniel was winning thefinal until Nate picked off a good wave in the final minutes and rippedthree turns earning a 6.5 which was enough to take the lead and hisfirst win of the season. Kilian Garland won his third straight Boysfinal and he now has four NSSA victories under his belt counting hisimpressive Juniors win at the Southwest Oceanside Open. Twelve-year-oldCory Arrambide ripped another Menehuene final for his third straightwin. Cory now increases his NSSA win streak to five, taking three GoldCoast Menehuene and two Southwest Open Boys victories. NicoleDeLeon nailed her first win of the season in the Womens final. Thisevent was the third stop on the Gold Coast Conference’s nine-eventtour. Next up for the Gold Coast will be event #4 at Ventura’s popularC Street “Pipes” surfing area.
