A powerful west-northwest packed the punch for Southwest Conference Open#7 on the south side of Huntington Beach Pier-the seventh stop on theten-event tour. Nearly 300 student surfers turned out with great H.B.wave conditions for both days of the competition. Saturday’s preliminaryrounds were held in good 3-5 foot surf building on Sunday with sets welloverhead. Nick Rozsa clinched his first victory this season in the OpenMen’s division. In Open Juniors, Colin Schildhauer won his first NSSAregular season event edging out runner up Cory Arrambide. Andrew Dohenytook his fifth Open Boys victory. Kolohe Andino’s six-event win streakwas snapped in the Mini Grom division as Luke Davis claimed his firstever NSSA win. National Champ Erica Hosseini picked up her second winin the Women’s and in the Longboard division reigning Explorer NationalChamp Felipe Becerra claimed his first Open victory of the season.

O-SMAS AIRSHOW-Newport Beach’s Danny Shea launched a clean frontsidedouble rail grab on a set left to capture the first airshow victory ofhis career in the NSSA O-SMAS airshow series. This was the third eventof the Southwest Conference airshows with the fourth and final eventslated for air heaven at 54th Street in Newport on March 6-7.

COMING UP: The Southwest Conference Open Season event #8 will be heldat Ponto Beach in Carlsbad on February 7-8. The Explorer Season willcontinue with event #6 on February 14-15 in Mission Beach’s San FernandoStreet Beach.
