At the 32nd Annual Northeast Surfing Championships
Narragansett, Rhode Island- It was a big day for the Bishop Hendricken Hawk Surf Team, as they captured the team title at the 32nd Annual Eastern Surfing Association Northeast Surfing Championships. The contest was held under balmy skies, with a solid 3-4 foot swell, at the Narragansett Town Beach.
Leading the way, were the tandem of Tom Guadagno and Angela Milas. Guadagno captured three titles, winning the Junior Men, Junior Longboard, and Junior Bodyboard divisions. Milas, a student of Bay View (sister school of Hendricken), took two divisional crowns, winning the Girls and Women’s Bodyboard finals. Milas is the only female on the squad. Other scorers for the Hawks included Pat Redmond (2nd in the Junior Bodyboard), Brian Covellone (2nd in the Junior Longboard), and Mark Dowdell (3rd in the Junior Bodyboard). Surf Team coach John Burnett said; “I was very impressed with some of our newer team members who managed to perform well in the fast breaking, close-out sections.”
There were other outstanding individual performances as well. Drew Simmons won both the Menehune Bodyboard and Menehune Longboard Finals. Peter Pan took the Grandmasters and Senior Longboard titles. His daughter, Tricia, won both the Women’s Longboard and Junior Womens’ crowns.
