June 10-12 At Kuhio Beach, Waikiki.
The 9th Annual China Uemura Wahine Classic is the perfect way to get summer started. Over 280 girls will compete in this year’s event, making it the largest all girls’ competition in Hawaii. Some of the top competitors set to attend includes Bethany Hamilton (Kauai, USA) and Alana Blanchard (Hanalei, HI). It all takes place this weekend, June 10-12 at Kuhio Beach in beautiful, downtown Waikiki, HI.
Rip Curl has again teamed up with Hawaiian legend China Uemura to host the tournament in support of the local Hawaiian community recognizing sexually abused women and children. All proceeds go to the Kapiolani Medial Center for Women and Children.
This year’s competition will consist of 16 different divisions, from shortboarders to longboarders and bodyboarders. The girls taking part in the event range from the ages of 5 to 50 years old.
The 9th Annual China Uemura Wahine Surfing Classic allows China Uemura and Rip Curl the opportunity to give back to the Surfing Community. Not only is the competition a showcase of upcoming talent in women’s surfing, but it is also a chance to help the local Kapiolani Hospital generate support for sexually abused women and children.
Furthermore, the event provides a fun and relaxed environment and the opportunity for all the involved to embrace the true Aloha spirit that is Hawaii-the heart of the surfing culture.
