Costa Mesa, CA (December 15, 2010): Stephanie Gilmore has been living the dream over the last two months. After clinching her 4th consecutive ASP World Title at the Rip Curl Pro Search “Somewhere in Puerto Rico,” the 22-year old surfifng sensation has continued her competitive onslaught by winning the Duel for the Jewel and consequently the Vans Triple Crown title at Pipeline yesterday.
With near-flawless, overhead conditions, Steph attacked backdoor against Coco Ho and Rip Curl teammates Alana Blanchard and Tyler Wright. After a couple deep pits, Steph officially padded her legacy with a new pair of titles to her name.
“I would trade it all to have another session out there with no one else,” Steph said in reference to her Duel for the Jewel heat at Pipeline yesterday. “We were a little bit nervous but it was so much fun.”
With the victory at Haleiwa, her 3rd place finish at Sunset, and now the victory at Pipeline, Steph simultaneously clinched her 3rd consecutive Vans Triple Crown title. “This one was definitely up there with winning world titles,” Steph said in reference t her Triple Crown title. “Each place is so different and challenging, you can show up here with all the confidence in the world and get smashed, so to in it again I fee really happy and proud of my achievements this year.”
This all comes a mere week after the 2010 SURFER Poll Awards, held December 6 at Turtle Bay, where Steph finished above Carissa Moore, Coco Ho, Sofia Mulanovich, and Alana Blancharrd to receive top honors as Women’s Surfer Poll Champion.
