Tuesday, 24 May, 2005 (St. Agnes Beach, Cornwall, England): A quick peek atPerranporth this morning revealed small, bankless swell and howling onshore winds. In short, conditions offering contest officials enough incentive to make the10-minute trek south to a nearby break at St. Agnes Beach.
Contest director Marc Sarran hopes to run rounds one and two of the Roxy Jamtoday, and assuming the move to St. Agnes is a smooth one, the first heat of themain event will take to the water at 10am local time.
Sarran arrived at the decision to engage the mobile element of the Roxy Jam afterdiscussing all of the options with birthday girl, Layne Beachley, who acts as thewomen ‘ s surf representative.
” Perranporth isn ‘ t looking that great, so we ‘ ve decided to utilize aback-up option of St. Agnes. It ‘ s a beautiful little bay with a littlerighthander and better conditions for the judges to be able to see us; plus it ‘s more protected from the wind. ” Beachley said.
” All going well, the swell is supposed to increase throughout the day and peakat around 6 o ‘ clock tonight. With an increasing swell, the sun coming out,and protection from the wind, it sounds like the better option than to stay here, freeze our butts off and paddle around with virtually no incentive to catch awave. Plus it ‘ s my birthday and I want to surf a good wave. ”
