Roxy Names Surfing Legend Lisa Andersen Global Brand Ambassador
Four-Time World Champion to Represent Brand, Assist in Marketing and Development, Mentor Team Riders and Act as Spokesperson for Quiksilver Foundation; Was First Female Athlete Sponsored by Quiksilver
(Huntington Beach, CA) July 25, 2005 — Roxy, a division of Quiksilver (NYSE: ZQK) and the leader in women’s surfing and boardriding lifestyle, today announced that Roxy Professional Surfer and four-time world champion Lisa Andersen has been appointed Global Brand Ambassador. As the quintessential Roxy icon, she will represent the brand, culture, lifestyle, image and sport on a global level. Widely considered one of the finest professional surfers in the history of the sport, Andersen’s appointment continues a long and successful relationship that began in the early 90’s when she became the first female athlete ever sponsored by Quiksilver.
In her capacity as Roxy’s Global Ambassador, Andersen will create and maintain a high profile for the brand with retailers, schools and the surf community as a whole and will assist with web commentary at Roxy surf events. She will also provide guidance and feedback for Roxy’s marketing and development by helping to determine the brand’s direction and continuity, assist with the creation of event merchandise and attend range development meetings and releases.
As one of the most highly acclaimed surfers in history, she will be an invaluable mentor to the Roxy Team Riders, where she will serve as the voice of the team, attend all Roxy surf events and act as a liaison between the Team Riders and media. Andersen will also be a spokesperson for the Quiksilver Foundation, where she will promote the organization, attend philanthropic events, speak on the Foundation’s behalf and contribute to charities such as Keep-A-Breast.

Andersen captured world championship titles from 1994—1997, and is the first surfer of either gender to capture four consecutive world championships since Australian Mark Richards accomplished the feat in 1982. She was voted “Favorite Female Surfer by the Surfer Poll Awards for five consecutive years, and has appeared on the covers of Outside Magazine and Women Sports and Fitness Magazine, which named her “Sportswoman of the Year in 1998. Sports Illustrated for Women named her one of “The Top 100 Female Athletes of the 20th Century, and Surfer has listed her as one of “The 25 Most Influential Surfers of All Time after making her the first female surfer to ever grace the magazine’s cover, in 1995. She was also inducted into the Huntington Beach Surfing Walk of Fame and named its “Woman of the Year in 2004.
