According to Variety Magazine, Ted Field’s Radar Pictures has optioned the surfer memoir “In Search of Captain Zero: A Surfer’s Road Trip Beyond the End of the Road,” with Sean Penn attached to star and produce.
Stacy Peralta, who recently helmed the Penn-narrated skateboarding documentary “Dogtown and Z-Boys,” will make his feature-directing debut with the project.
The autobiography of Allan Weisbecker, who will also write the screenplay adaptation, “Zero” is the memoir of a hardcore surfer whose best friend, “Captain Zero,” disappeared and inspired Weisbecker to sell his home and travel through the Central American underworld to find him. The book was published in March by Putnam.
