The first Blowfish event of the season was held at the North Jetty in Oceanside on July 23, 2003. The surf came up from the day before and was a clean 3 foot with rippable rights and lefts working about 20 yards off the jetty. Over 90 locals showed up to compete for a ton of prizes and even a little bit of loot.
In the Grom division it was war with North County bragging rights on the line these kids went for it. New comer Nick Sundolnik taking the win.
The Juniors are always a force to recond with wherever you go, and O-Side is no different. Tory Miester edged out Shea Yates for the win.
In the Air Spectacular it was 12 surfers in one heat and no rules except whoever launches the biggest and best air wins. On this day it would be Jay Quinn from New Zealand busting an air reverse to edge out Gavin Sutherland’s double rail grab.
The Pro-Am final was stacked with mostly locals and a few seasoned competitors. Local boy Jason Bennett took the top honors and $200 in Cash, with Layne Harrison finishing in second place, Jay Quinnn finsihed in third. Jake Kirschenbaum, Peter Labador, and Jeremy Sherwin, finished in that order.
