SIMA And Board-Trac Form Strategic Alliance

The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) announced today (March 28, 2002) that it has formed a strategic partnership and joint marketing agreement with youth sports research specialists Board-Trac, Inc. in order to provide its membership with vital, up-to-date research data on the surf industry.

The agreement calls for Board-Trac to provide industry data that can be distributed through SIMA for news releases, reports, and specific media requests. In addition, Board-Trac will provide SIMA members in good-standing with a twelve-percent discount for all syndicated, custom, and proprietary research and consulting projects.

“Board-Trac has long been considered the leader in research data for the board-sports industry and, more specifically, the surf industry,” says Dick Baker, SIMA president and CEO of Ocean Pacific Apparel Corp (Op). “SIMA members will now have the ability to tap into that resource more readily and use that data to plan more efficiently and run their businesses more effectively. The partnership with Board-Trac will also allow SIMA to provide more accurate and definitive data in news releases and reports to the media.”

Board-Trac studies the lifestyles and purchasing habits of young people between the ages of eight and 24 who are active participants in surfing, bodyboarding, skateboarding, and snowboarding. While Board-Trac has a special emphasis on board sports, its research also includes teens and young adults who are influenced by all types of sports. The studies are designed to give subscribers the information they need to be competitive in an ever-crowded market and to learn about their targeted consumer — what they like, what they dislike, how to reach them, what to say, and where to say it. Board-Trac also produces a retail study that includes the results from interviewers conducted among retailers targeting the action sports industry. The retail study is a joint venture with Action Sports Retailer (ASR).
