TAHARA, Japan (Wednesday, July 30, 2008) – For the second day in a row, the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 6-Star Yumeya Billabong Pro Tahara enjoyed near-perfect conditions with surf pulsing in the three-to-four foot (1 metre) range at Akabane Long Beach for Round 2 of competion.
Jadson Andre (BRA) put in the most impressive performance of the event thus far, posting an incredible 18.44 out of a possible 20 for the highest heat total of the event.
Dusty Payne (HAW) collected excellent scores as well with a 9.33 and a 7.33 an impressive 16.66 out of a possible 20.
An international contingent of Kyle Knox (USA) and Corey Ziems (AUS) followed suit posting a 14.67 and a 13.66 respectively.
Gavin Beschen(HAW) executed a perfect barrel ride and was awarded a exellent score of 8.67 out of a possible 10. Beschen netted a solid back up score, bringing his heat total to 12.47 out of a possible 20 to advance through to the Round of 96.
Domestic surf star Tetta Mori(Amami Island), who took the high score yesterday, put on another solid performance once again, collecting a high total heat score of 12.77 out of a possible 20, moving him straight into tomorrow’s Round of 96.
Tomorrow, Yumeya Billabong Pro Tahara action goes straight to the Round of 96, and event organizers plan to run all 24 heats of the Round 3 tomorrow.
The Yumeya Billabong Pro Tahara is a six-day event with the Finals scheduled for Sunday, August 3, 2008.
