Southeast swells light up Central and South America

While the California coastline has been enjoying a run of beautiful weather and a series of fun steep-angled south swells over the past two weeks or so, some of our neighbors to the south have been having one of the best seasons on record.

The South Pacific’s storm track recently allowed a couple large storms to form just off the South American coastline near Chile, aiming some unusually large swells at parts of mainland Mexico and Central and South America, including Peru’s Pico Alto, where a recent big-wave event was won by Carlos Burle in hair-raising 40-foot surf.

Below are a couple pieces of video evidence of the tube-feast that has been taking place, and Timmy Reyes touring Oaxaca, Mexico.
