SPY® + SURFRIDER FOUNDATION HAWAII DIRK™ SUNGLASSES LAUNCH
Island-style frames offer protection for eyes and Hawaii Coast
CARLSBAD, Calif. – SPY Optic™ today announced the release of its SPY® + Surfrider Hawaii Dirk™ sunglasses, shades as tasty as a loco moco dinner, with an angle on helping to preserve the Hawaiian coastline.
This year SPY® teamed-up with the Surfrider Foundation—the leading non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches—to design a frame that gives back to the Islands. A percentage of SPY® + Surfrider Hawaii Dirk™ sunglasses sales is slated for donation to the Surfrider Foundation’s Oahu Chapter to support its efforts with beach and ocean access, improving water quality and assuring responsible coastal development.
“I’m psyched on the charity effort behind the frames,” says Torrey Meister, Big Island professional surfer and SPY® team rider. “There’s nothing that bums me out more than seeing trash and pollution piling up on our beaches. SPY® is really helping the Surfrider Foundation make an impact on preserving our coastlines. Finally there’s a piece of plastic that actually gives back to the planet.”
The SPY® + Surfrider Hawaii Dirk™ sunglasses come in a matte black frame with grey Hawaiian flag print and white SPY® logos on the arms, a shaka graphic stamped on the inside, and unique Hawaiian archipelago lens printing. Each pair comes with a limited-edition SPY® Hawaii sunglasses bag.
“The SPY® + Surfrider Hawaii Dirk™ looks insane,” says Meister. “The Hawaiian flag printing on the arms looks so rad. I have so much love for my hometown and the rest of the Hawaiian Islands. Now I can show some Aloha on my face.”
MSRP for the SPY® + Surfrider Hawaii Dirk™ is $129 and comes available in a polarized grey lens. The SPY® + Surfrider Hawaii Dirk™ is built from nearly indestructible Grilamid® and features custom metal details; 8-Base lenses; built-in hinge system; and 100% UV protection.
“Buy a pair whether you live in Hawaii or not,” says Meister. “We all love the beautiful beaches of the Hawaiian Islands. This is your chance to help preserve that beauty.”
