Just heard from Ian Walsh, he’s off to Japan to catch some typhoon swell courtesy of Super Typhoon Megi. Watch this thing as it progresses (hopefully) into a good swell for Hawaii and California…

(Oct. 19) — Images of Typhoon Megi captured recently by NASA satellites reveal the magnitude of the year’s most intense tropical cyclone. Forecasters predict that the now-Category 3 storm, which reached “Super Typhoon” status on Saturday before reportedly killing 10 people in the northern Philippines, will continue its trajectory across the pacific and reintensify to Category 4 or 5 before entering China or Vietnam later this week.
“Weather watchers say it’s already shaping up to be bigger than Hurricane Katrina,” New Zealand’s Channel 3 news reported.
